Abstract

Protection and conservation of forests and biodiversity is a Herculean task. Ninety per cent of the medicinal plants are found in forests and hence the protection of forests is must. The present case study shows that involvement of community helps in conservation of this depleting resource.

Abstract

Medicinal plants traditionally used from centuries to treat various ailments are reported from Satpuda region of Nandurbar District in North Maharashtra. In the present paper, 21 Medicinal plants are enumerated in detail, giving information about medicinal uses, parts used, dosage and mode of preparation of drugs. During three years extensive survey, the plant material has been collected as per customary ways and uses of plant recorded after through and cross checking with various sources. Latest nomenclature has been followed after referring the current literature. Distribution pattern and herbarium specimen numbers of plant spices recorded are also given for the authenticity.

Abstract

The tribals in Satpudas of Nandurbar district of Maharashtra state are conserving the nature traditionally. Some areas are specially reserved for conservation in and around their habitations. These areas are called Gaodeo or Waghdeo. The tribal population consists mostly of 'bhils' and 'pawaras'. The area reserved varies from a small patch of few trees and area of few square meter to about half hectare with hundreds of trees. The tribals use these areas for worshiping the nature God as Gaodeo or Waghdeo. This is an effort to document these sacred groves in Akrani (Dhadgaon) tahsil of Nandurbar district.

Abstract

Vitamin D deficiency is found to be common in variety of conditions like diabetes mellitus and obesity. There is scarce data regarding the dose and duration of Vitamin D treatment in such patients. Adults were screened for presence of Vitamin D insufficiency by chemiluminescent immunoassays and studied for the effect of 2 dose regimens for 2 months. After confirming Vitamin D insufficiency (< 30 ng/mL), they were treated with either 3 lakh IU (I.M.)/month or 6 lakh IU (I.M.)/month (n=13 each). Vitamin D was estimated monthly. Results of our study show that Vitamin D deficiency is common in obese patients. At the end of one month, administration of Vitamin D resulted in significant (p < 0.05) improvement in Vitamin D levels in both these groups. Vitamin D levels in these two groups were comparable at the end of 1 month (25.28 ± 3.75ng/mL and 26.16 ± 3.72ng/mL). However further administration of Vitamin D significantly (p < 0.05) improved the levels of Vitamin D in patients receiving the higher dose 6 lakh IU (33.28 ± 2.55 ng/mL) vs. 3 lakh IU (31.52 ± 3.29). There was no evidence of Vitamin D toxicity. Hence, administration of Vitamin D in the dose of 6 lakh units (I.M.)/month might be a better regimen than 3 lakh IU (I.M.)/month to correct Vitamin D deficiency in these patients. However, the exact duration of treatment was necessary to maintain the Vitamin D level in normal range, needs to be determined by further studies.

Abstract

FTP is file transfer protocol is basically to transfer for large volumes of data. Implementations of it can be widely deployed and can be used on wellconnected network because of its ability to scale to network speeds. We propose the optimization technique to improve the performance of FTP[1], measured performance using the various profilers. This Profile data is valuable for identifying performance bottlenecks and guiding optimizations. The FTP ported on various hardware platforms such as P-III, P-IV with MMX, SIMD architecture based. We have use deoxygen/ system clock (gettime()) tool techniques for gathering and manipulating profile information at varying degrees of precision, particularly in the presence of various optimizations techniques such as inlining, c level optimization, loop unrolling, intrinsic, utilization of pipeline stage for processors with compiler level coding. We found that with various levels of optimization stages we achieve that data memory and program memory saving with effect of 60% of actual size not affect the actual performance. As FTP contains the compute intensive modules such as communicating protocol as ISO-OSI[2] layer to transfer data it affects the bandwidth and processing speed of CPU core. This method gives us performance nearer to GridFTP high performance computing model (Note: GridFTP used mostly HPC processor to measure its work[3]).The aim is to provide the benchmark for the furher research in this diection, so that it could be applicable to the mobile decives for efficient handling of data memory. The benchm could be useful to acheive the space and speed optimization.

Abstract

Serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides are the element which provokes the development of hyperlipidemia and coronary arterial disease. Present study deals with the study of effect of Ficus Glomerata Fruit extract on biochemical parameters like serum urea, serum cholesterol, serum triglycerides and blood glucose level in alloxan induced diabetic rats. Petroleum ether, benzene, alcohol and aqueous extract showed highly significant activity in decrease of blood cholesterol, petroleum ether and chloroform extract showed highly significant activity in decrease of serum triglyceride. From the data obtained, it can be concluded that the various fruit extract of Ficus glomerata acts as potent antihyperlipidemic and antidiabetic agent.
